Iconic Miami Neighborhoods

Kick off your Miami adventure by visiting some of its most famous landmarks.

  • South Beach: Renowned for its pastel-colored Art Deco buildings, South Beach offers a perfect blend of leisure and entertainment. Walk along Ocean Drive, relax on the sandy shores, or grab a refreshing drink from a nearby cafe.

  • Little Havana: Immerse yourself in vibrant Cuban culture at Little Havana. Sip a café cubano at a local café while enjoying the lively atmosphere. The area is home to the famous Calle Ocho Festival, which takes place each February or March and attracts more than 1 million attendees each year. Be sure to check out the street art that tells the stories of this community. To ensure you get the best experience, make sure you check it out in the late afternoon or nighttime as it's when the neighborhood is more vibrant.

  • Wynwood Walls: The graffiti walls have transformed the Wynwood neighborhood into a hub for art enthusiasts. Featuring over 40 murals from artists around the world, it's the perfect spot for capturing Instagram-worthy photos. I have seen the neighborhood expand from an area where locals go to present their art and have a nice cup of coffee with friends, to the monster it is today. Nowadays you can expect lots of fancy restaurants, bars, and nightclubs in this area, just like coffee shops, clothing stores and more. Each year, Wynwood Walls welcomes around 500,000 visitors, making it a major attraction in the heart of Miami.

  • Coral Gables: Known for its Mediterranean Revival architecture, tree-lined streets, upscale shops, and excellent dining options, makes it a perfect destination for those looking to indulge in a sophisticated atmosphere. In addition, Coral Gable has a great cultural scene with attractions such as the Actors' Playhouse at the Miracle Theatre, and don't miss out on the local's favorite bookstore Books & Books.

  • Coconut Grove: Miami’s oldest neighborhood. It's celebrated for its lush greenery, artistic vibe, and waterfront views, providing a laid-back escape with a bohemian flair. It's rich in history and offers a variety of attractions, including art galleries, parks, and historic sites, making it a must-visit spot if you want to see the diversity Miami has to offer.

Indulging in the Food Scene

Miami's food scene is a melting pot of flavors, influenced by its rich cultural diversity. You’ll find everything from upscale dining to popular food trucks, from Cuban food to Central and South America, to Indian and Lebanese. There's a cuisine for every appetite in Miami. A pro tip you'll appreciate? Secure dining reservations for popular spots to avoid long waits, especially during winter months when we get all the snow birds and tourism peaks.

Miami must try restaurants

You can't go back home without saying you went to these places.

  • Versailles: Dubbed the “most famous Cuban restaurant in the world,” it’s known for dishes like Ropa Vieja and Tres Leches cake. Versaille’s serves over 1,000 customers daily, so you might want to make reservations.

  • Joe’s Stone Crab: This iconic seafood restaurant is loved for its fresh stone crab claws. A favorite since 1913, it sees over 3,000 customers on a busy Saturday, so arrive early to snag a spot.

  • Coyo Taco: With a casual vibe and fresh ingredients, Coyo Taco is a local favorite. Their tacos, made with authentic flavors, have garnered rave reviews across food blogs and social media platforms.

A local favorite of mine: OMG Brigadeiros

Miami Mom & Pop Restaurants

These are some of my personal favorites. I hope you get to try them out.

  • OMG Brigadeiros: Two brothers looking to start from scratch opened their first OMG location in 2015. I remember hearing about it one year later, and went right away. They offer a variety of brigadeiros, coffees, cakes, and more. For those who have no idea what a brigadeiro is... it's a popular Brazilian bite-sized treat, consisting of a soft, creamy chocolate fudge ball typically covered in chocolate sprinkles.

  • Mr. Cachapa: As a Venezuelan, I can't help but give some love to one of my favs. They serve most Venezuelan staple food such as cachapas, tequeños, arepas and more. And if you love empanadas, or want to try them, this is my favorite spot to eat them. They are crispy, and have generous filling.

  • Enriqueta's Sandwich Shop: Located where Edgewater meets Midtown, this Cuban staple is known for their sandwiches. You can't go wrong with a Pan con Bistec and for those in a rush or just looking for something quick, they do have a ventanita. Ask for a Cortadito.

Beaches in Miami

When enjoying the stunning beaches of Miami, it's essential to follow specific beach rules. Miami Beach, for instance, enforces regulations such as no glass containers, restrictions on loud music, and has designated smoking areas. Now, what are some other beaches that are nor Miami Beach or South Beach?

  • Haulover Beach: Known for its beautiful sands and clothing-optional area, Haulover Beach offers a unique experience. It's located on the northern side of Miami Beach, around 30min distance from Downtown. Haulover Beach has a paid parking lot available for visitors, however it fills up quickly, so arriving early is recommended. There are also nearby street parking options, but they may require a short walk to the beach.

  • Hollywood Beach: Known for its vibrant boardwalk and lively atmosphere, Hollywood Beach is perfect for families and visitors of all ages. Stroll along the scenic Broadwalk, lined with shops, restaurants, and entertainment options. The beach, located slightly north of Haulover, offers ample space for sunbathing, beach games, and water activities, making it a fun-filled destination for a day in the sun.

  • Key Biscayne: For stunning views, visit Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park. A pro tip: go up the lighthouse for breathtaking sights! • Metromover: It's a free elevated people mover system that connects passengers from Brickell to Downtown Miami. It has 21 stops, and trains arrive quite frequently, making it a convenient form of transportation for both locals and tourists. It does have 3 different loops so be mindful when riding! It only has 6 stations: Miami, Aventura, Fort Lauderdale, Boca Raton, West Palm Beach, and Orlando. You can purchase a ticket that includes shuttle service to your final destination. It runs either every 30min or 1hr depending on the day and time, and the ride takes 20min in total. For the full time table and the tracker, click here.
